  1. Great news! “monster recording” sounds appealing. I’m looking forward to it.

Any info on when the album might be released?

    • Thanks for writing, Xavier. The best answer we can offer is “soon”. We’re into some pretty complex mixes on the five songs now. You’re going to hear prog industry standard production values on this record. As well, the artwork for the cover is nearly complete.
We’re putting together a plan to play this new music out, along with some selected cuts from the 2007 release, and one or two other surprises thrown in.
Kindly keep checking this site for updates. However we can assure you the need for updates on the recording’s progress will become moot shortly, replaced by CD release announcements.

      • Thanks for the info, and remember, don’t listen to us impatient people Take whatever time is required for the tremendously important mixing phase.

I have many CDs on which good songwriting is kind of hidden behind because of low production values. This definitely does not include the latest Oblivion Sun, Wyatt/Whitaker and Happy the Man records

  2. Can’t wait for the new cd! Infact I have turned on so many people to the first cd and HTM stuff as well, that I may be giving out a ton of OS cd’s this year!

  3. I’ve was following you on your old website over the past few months.
I have way too much music…..but never enough of the really good shtuff!
A fan of HTM for decades, I’m really looking forward to this new release.

  4. can’t wait to hear the new material!!!!!! I’m (as well as most of my friends) a huge fan ever since the old “Cellar Door” days We’ve turned a lot of folks on to HTM all the way to the Canary Islands! They love you guys!

    • The mix is actually very close to completion, and our amazing friend, Kit Watkins has started doing some test mastering. We are very excited to have Kit on board for the project! I can’t promise a date yet, but I do promise we are working on the album as diligently as we can.

      • Good morning from Montréal

I was actually wondering what was going on with OS recently (it’s a reflex, your system knows that it’s time for a band to release a new album). After seeing the band at Rosfest and being blown away by the work and Stanley Whitaker’s guitar techniques I’m looking forward to this next piece of music. Michel

        • Hi Michel,
It seems the last 10% of the work takes 90% of the effort and time!! Frank is back feeling much better, and masterly engineering the last bits of March of the Mushroom Men. Should be in Kit’s hands to fully master by next week. Hoping for a September release. Also have a feature article coming out in the next edition of Progression magazine! Soon, and very soon!

  5. Very cool, Kit involved, I like that! Anxiously awaiting the the new offering, and hopefully live performances to back it up (~; Although I know that may take some doing (~; Go for it !! We cannot be deprived. Right? Jeff O

  6. A long time HTM Oblivion Sun fan, I am excited to hear that a new album is coming out. With input from Kit! Here is wishing Stan (and all) a happy and healthy 2013, and maybe, just maybe a live Oblivion date or two?

  7. Here’s my first impression on the new album, as posted on the Happy The Fan-forum:

First impression: this is more a guitar-based album, with more piano and less synths. It’s good that the guys didn’t make a OSII, but went a different path. Still, two tracks have a past: Everything, that short little ballad, is a re-working of the same song that appeared on the Whitaker-Wyatt CD “Pedal Giant Animals” and of course The High Places is based on Merlin Of The High Places from Happy The Man. But in the latter song there is a different approach, although there are of course some HTM-like fragments. I like Stan’s vocal style, it has such a fine grace and the combination with the piano gives a real warm sound.
